France Travel : Where To Stay In Paris

    By RomanticHeart | September 10, 2009

Where to stay in Paris is a tough question to answer because there are so many fabulous places.

Probably the best way to begin to choose is to decide what district you would prefer to be in. With twenty different districts, it may be a good idea to narrow your search to the left or right bank in order to keep your search short. Then whittle it down to districts based on the hotel or inn that best suits you in a specific district.

The left and right banks are the left and right sides of the Seine, the river that flows through the center of Paris, dividing it basically in half. The Seine flows westward which means when referring to the left bank one usually means the southern half of Paris and the right, the northern portion of the city.

These directions will help you when choosing where to stay in Paris. You will find that even though both banks are the staple and hear of Paris, they are very different from each other in culture and feel.

If you are interested in fashion, art and the Bohemian way of life, you would do well on the left bank. It is the epitome of Parisian popular culture and offers many varied and interesting shops, buildings, historical sites, and funky architecture and people. There are lots of bed and breakfasts, inns, and hotels that are interesting, at some very reasonable prices for Paris.

The right bank, however, is the epitome of high-society sophistication that usually goes hand-in-hand with Paris. It also houses the famous L’Arc de Triomphe and the Champs Elysees in the business district. It is thought to be highly metropolitan, as the neighborhoods are incredibly wealthy and beautiful constructed, ranging from the very classical to modern architectural structures.
